Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara(SDM) College of Medical
Sciences, Dharwad was instituted in the year 2002. It is the first modern
medicine Medical College created under the support of the SDM Educational
Society.
The first batch of one hundred students commenced their I
MBBS course in September 2004. Under the
stewardship of Medical Director Dr. Niranjan Kumar and Principal Dr. J. V.
Chowti, the students have been cared for in an ideal atmosphere. Located 6 kms from Dharwad on the
Pune-Bangalore road in a spacious 52-acre land of serene surroundings, the SDM
College of Medical Sciences and Hospital complex can boast of an ideal
atmosphere for best medical education.
The institute has a spacious location away from the noise of
buzzing cities, pollution free environment and comfortable natural ambient
temperature range of this part of Karnataka state can be an ideal dream of many
parents drawn from various locations of India and abroad.
Hostels for boys and girls in the vicinity of the hospital
and college, suitable timings for library, well tailored timings for classes
and studies, facilities for outdoor and indoor games, museum facilities,
outlets for extracurricular activities which are allowed at an austere level,
all enable the student to take on the burden of the medical curriculum in a
balanced manner.
The campus restricts to a fully vegetarian menu and offers
freedom from the need to keep motorcycles/cars thereby obviating the anxieties
of parents.

Compulsory Rotating Internship 1 Year)
The M.B.B.S Course is governed by the regulations of the
Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. The duration of the
course is four and half years (9 terms, each of 6 month duration) of academic
Study and one year of internship.
Admission Criteria for MBBS Course:
Course Duration – 5 ½ Years (Study Period – 4 ½ Years +
Compulsory Rotating Internship 1 Year)
Syllabus: As per Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences,
Bangalore curriculum.
For General & Management /Institutional Preference
Candidates:
Eligibility Criteria:
- To be eligible for admission into M.B.B.S course, the candidate should have passed the qualifying examination PUC or 10+2 equivalent examination recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, having secured not less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in PCB taken together. (40% in case of SC/ST)
- Merit for selection is decided by the entrance (KCET/ COMEDK) examination result where in a minimum of 50% marks are mandatory. However in respect of SC/ST candidates the minimum percentage of marks required is 40% instead of 50%.
- Age Criteria: Candidate should have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission. Candidates from outside Karnataka State must get eligibility certificate from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. Candidates of minority status should have Tulu speaking certificate from appropriate authorities.
For Non-Karnataka & CBSE
(10+2) Candidates:
Candidates who has completed 10+12 from CBSE Board & Non
Karnataka Students should secure Eligibility Certificate from Rajiv Gandhi
University of Health Sciences, Bangalore before admission process and students
who have completed 10+12 other than in India should apply for Foreign
Eligibility Certificate from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences,
Bangalore before admission process. Similarly Non Karnataka student should
obtain Migration Certificate from competent authorities of their respect state
before seeking admission.
For NRI / NRI Sponsored
Candidates:
For NRI Candidates/NRI Sponsored Candidates should secure
Eligibility Certificate from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences,
Bangalore before seeking admission.
They should get clearance from Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, New Delhi & Local Police Commissioner as well as from their
respective foreign embassy.
