Kasturba
Medical College, Mangalore
Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore was started in January
1955. The Medical Council of India (MCI) granted credit to KMC Mangalore in
1958, with the first graduating class. Identification by the General Medical
Council of Great Britain and the Malaysian Medical Council followed soon.
The College was first associated to Karnataka University and
later in 1965 to Mysore University, followed by association to Mangalore
University in 1980.
The premier co-educational college is located in the
charming hill station of Manipal in Karnataka. Initially it was set up with
just the pre-clinical section at Manipal and the clinical training was
conducted in Mangalore. In 1969 the clinical program started at Manipal and the
Kasturba Medical College started functioning as a full-fledged independent
college.

Internship at Kasturba Medical College -
Students of Kasturba Medical College, after passing the
final M.B.,B.S., exams under the new MCI Regulations (1997) are required to do
their one year (365 working Days) of compulsory internship in any hospital
recognized by MCI for internship training within India. Internship training
either in part or in full may not be undertaken abroad as per MCI regulations.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor
of Surgery (MBBS):
MBBS (Medicine and Surgery)- Stands for Bachelor of Medicine
and Bachelor of Surgery. Typically, MBBS (Medicine and Surgery) is a 5 or 6
years course, minimum eligibility for which is an intermediate (10+2) in
science with more than 50%marks. Surgery is essentially the process of utilizing
instrumental techniques on a person by the doctors for investigating as well as
treating a pathological condition, for instance disease or injury.
Eligibility:
Pass in 10+2 , A Level, IB, American 12th grade or
equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology and English
individually with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology /
Biotechnology taken together.
Admission in MBBS Course –
For getting admission into MBBS course in Medical College,
the students have to qualify Common Entrance Test conducted by Manipal
University. The selection of the students is done based on the ranks obtained
in the all India Entrance Examination.
