K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), Mangalore was started
in the year 1999. The institute became a component Nitte University in 2009.
The Institution is named after its founder, the visionary,
Late Justice K S Hegde, former Justice of the Supreme Court of India and former
Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
The Institution has made rapid progress towards being
recognized as a medical school with high academic standards delivering quality
health care with an emphasis on promoting social responsibility in its
students.

Academic programs
The Institution offers MBBS and MD/MS programs recognized by
the Medical Council of India. It also offers B.Sc courses in Medical Imaging
Technology and Operation Theatre Technology. Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable
Hospital, the 1000 bed teaching hospital attached to the Institution provides
all levels of holistic health care including major super-speciality services
and provides excellent training opportunities to the students of the Academy.

K S Hegde Medical Academy offers a four and a half year
program leading to the award of the degree, M.B.B.S. K S Hegde Medical Academy
and the attached K S Hegde Hospital are duly recognized by the Medical Council
of India and are affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences,
Bangalore.
As per the curriculum designed by the Rajiv Gandhi
University of Health Sciences, every student shall undergo a period of
certified study extending over 4 1/2 academic years from the date of
commencement of study to the date of completion of examination followed by 1
year of compulsory rotatory internship.

Eligibility criteria for MBBS course:
- A pass in 12th standard or equivalent examination approved by the Nitte University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study, with atleast 50% marks in aggregate of optional subjects.
- The candidate should have completed 17 years of age as on December 31 of the year of admission.
Admission Procedure-
A pass in 12th standard or equivalent examination approved
by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore with Physics,
Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages
of study, with atleast 50% marks in aggregate of optional subjects.
